How to change the default font in Google Docs?

You can simply change the font by selecting the font of your choice on Google Docs. However, to change the default font for each new document, you will need to take a few extra steps. To save you the hassle, we have already found and tested the methods that you can use to change the default font in Google Docs.

To change the default font in Google Docs, follow these steps:

1. Open a black document on Google Docs.

2. Type something.

3. Select the text using ‘CTRL + A’.

4. Select the desired font from the font menu.

5. Click on ‘Normal Text’ and hover the cursor above it then select the “Update Normal Text to Match” option.

6. Click on ‘Format > Paragraph Styles > Options > Save as my default styles.

Once the settings are saved, close the Google Docs altogether and then open the website again, and then try creating a new blank document. From now on, the new selected font will be set as the default.

Also, keep in mind that you can change the default font size with this method as well. Just before updating the normal text to match, make sure to adjust the size as you wish and then follow the process. Similarly, you can also make the default text bold or italic using the same settings.

Moving on, this process was for ‘Normal Text’ only. If you wish to change the font for H1, H2, H3, etc., you can do so by selecting the desired heading instead of the Normal Text from the styles menu. You have the option to select the desired font with the perfect size and style.

Keep in mind that if you have selected a different font for the title or the headings, it will change spontaneously whenever you’re jumping from normal text to headings. You won’t have to go back and forth in changing the fonts, the system will automatically do it for you.

This is extremely useful if you want a different font with bold or italic styles for your headings because once you switch from normal text to headings, the system will load in the fonts that you have saved. This will save you a lot of time if you’re used to spending a good few hours changing the fonts of each heading inside a document.
