Adding a stroke to text improves readability by making it stand out against the background. In this guide, we will help you add an outline to a text using Figma’s Stroke tool through a simple demonstration to get you covered.
Outline Text in Figma
- Navigate to Figma and sign in with your credentials. From the home screen, open the design file you’re working on from the Recently viewed. If you haven’t started with any, click on the New design file button.

- After the new or existing design is loaded, click on the text you’re working with. If you haven’t added text, click on the T icon on the toolbar and drag the cursor to add a text box.

- Now add or modify the text in the text box, navigate to the Design tab on the right, find the Stroke section, and click on the + associated with it.

- Doing so, you will notice an outline added to the text. You can manage the outline by selecting Inside, Outside, or Center from the dropdown.

- Next, find the slider next to the dropdown and drag it left and right to set the intensity of the stroke. If you have manual design requirements, you can also enter a value in the input field provided.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to outline text in Figma!
Figma does a great job at outlining text with its stroke tool. While there isn’t any need to go outside Figma to outline text, if you aren’t happy with the results, try text editors or other design tools and import the text as SVG or PNG.
