Unfortunately, there isn’t any option to reduce the Figma file size. However, you can reduce the contents inside the file and reduce the overall size of the file. In this guide, we will present a demonstration to help reduce the file size using a plugin to get you covered.
Note: This approach doesn’t reduce the Figma file but involves reducing/compressing the size of the images, which indirectly reduces the file size.
Reduce Figma File Size
- Open Figma on your browser and sign in with your credentials. Next, open the design file you wish to reduce the file size from Recently viewed.

- After the design file is loaded, check the Figma file size by saving a local copy.

- For demonstration, I have added a large image, which is around 10 MB, and saved the Figma file as a local copy to find out it is around 8 MB.

- To reduce the file size, we will use the Downsize plugin, which compresses/resizes the images to reduce the overall Figma file size.

- To run it, click on Action and then Plugins & widget. Next, search for Downsize and then run it by clicking on the Run button. If you couldn’t find it, you can also access it from the Figma community – Downsize.

- After the plugin is loaded, it automatically selects all images. Now, set the Compression value and click the Compress button.

- After the plugin compresses the file, repeat Step 3 and check the file size. As you can see, it has been reduced from 8 MB to 1.5 MB.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to reduce Figma file size!
With this approach, you can significantly reduce the Figma file size. However, keep in mind that compressing/reducing the image a lot can reduce the image quality affecting your design.
