Figma offers collaboration capabilities with professional and organizational plans, but unfortunately, none of the plans come with a dedicated chat feature. As an alternative, Figma offers cursor chat, which allows you to type live, temporary messages to others in your Figma file.
In this guide, we will help you with using Cursor chat through a demonstration to get you covered.
Chat in Figma
- Start by navigating to Figma and signing in with your credentials. Now, open an existing design from a Recently viewed or start with a new one using the New design file.

- Once the new or existing design is loaded, navigate to the top right corner and click on Share. From the options displayed, click on the Copy link and send it to your team members for them to view and comment on.

- After the team member has joined, click on an empty space and press / for the cursor chat to appear. Alternatively, right-click on an empty area, and from the options displayed, click on Cursor chat.

- If you do it right, you can start adding text to the input field of cursor chat, and the team members collaborating can see the text and respond with cursor chat.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to chat in Figma!
While cursor chat is an easy and simple way to collaborate in Figma, the downside is that it is temporary, and the messages sent vanish within a few seconds. As an alternative, you can use comments or the paid audio chat in Figma.
