How To Add Noise in Figma

Figma lets you work with different effects, but unfortunately, there isn’t a dedicated tool or preset to add noise. In this guide, we will provide a way around this through a simple demonstration using a plugin to get you covered.

Add Noise in Figma

  1. Navigate to Figma and sign in with your credentials. Next, open the design file you’re working on from Recently viewed. If you haven’t started yet, click on the New design file.

  1. Once the new or existing design is loaded, navigate to the toolbar, click on the Resources icon, and then the Plugin tab.

  1. In the search bar associated with the Plugin tab, search for Noise by Dustin Mierau and click on Run.

  1. After the plugin is added, click on the layer to select it. The Noise plugin recognizes it, and the noise preview updates to the shape of the layer.

  1. Now, adjust the color, density, depth, stretch, smooth, and vignette options. Once you’re done, click on the Plus at the bottom right corner of the Noise plugin to apply the noise to the selected layer.

  1. By doing so, the noise effect will be added to the selected layer, as shown below.

Pro Tip: While the Noise plugin is handy, there isn’t an option to adjust opacity. In this scenario, select the layer to which the noise is added and adjust the opacity of the noise layer added by the plugin in the Fill of the Properties panel.
