An SVG file is a scalable vector graphic format used in designs to display sharp images and icons that can be resized without losing quality. In this guide, we will demonstrate how to export an SVG from Figma so you can use it seamlessly on other designs and design platforms.
Export SVG from Figma
- Open Figma on your browser and sign in with your credentials. Now, open the existing design from Recently viewed. If you haven’t started yet, click on the New design file.

- Once the new or existing design is loaded, click on the layer, frame, component, group, or section you want to export. For demonstration, we created a text box with text inside it.

- After selecting, the Design tab in the Properties panel will be updated. Now, navigate to the Export section and select SVG from the dropdown.

- If you want more control over the export, click on Export Settings to access more SVG export options.

- Once done with selecting the export options, check the preview and click on the Export button.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to export SVG from Figma!
While Figma offers flexibility to export layers, frames, components, groups, and sections, some users have reported missing elements when exporting. If you’re unhappy with the SVGs generated by Figma, try the SVG Export plugin for more control and better results.
