Figma offers a few customizable shapes to work with, and if you’re trying to merge them, there isn’t an option dedicated to it. However, there is a way around it, and with this demonstration, we will help you merge shapes using a simple guide to get you covered.
Merge Shapes in Figma
- Open Figma on your browser and sign in with your credentials. Next, navigate to the Recently viewed and open the design file you’re working on.

- After the design file is loaded, select the shapes you want to merge. For demonstration, we added an ellipse and a polygon.

- When selecting the shapes, you can notice the options in the toolbar update. Now, navigate to the Boolean groups option and click on it.

- You will then find multiple options, from which you click on the Union selection.

- By doing so, the shapes are united. However, in the Layers panel, if you click on the union created, the shapes are found separate.

- To merge the shapes, right-click on the union created, and from the options, click on Flatten.

- If you do it right, the shapes will be merged successfully and can be seen as a whole in the layers panel.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to merge shapes in Figma!
You can skip the union selection and proceed with the flatten option to merge the shapes. While it does the job, the shapes aren’t merged properly and can be found separate with improper anchor points. Hence, follow the steps to merge the shapes right.
