If you’re trying to paste in place on Figma, it is straightforward. As you’re here, we believe that you’re having issues with layer pasting in a random place or overlapping on the design. In this guide, we will help you paste it into place through a simple demonstration to get you covered.
Paste in Place in Figma
- Go to Figma and log in with your account. On the home screen, find and open your design file from the Recently viewed section. If you don’t have a file yet, click the New design file button.

- After the new or existing design is loaded, add a layer, select it, and copy and paste it using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V on Windows and Command + C and Command + V on Mac. You’ll see the pasted layer directly overlap with the original, as it pastes in the same position.

- However, this doesn’t apply to frames. If you don’t select the target frame before pasting, the layer will paste in the same position within the original frame instead of the intended frame.
- For this demonstration, we created two frames, one with a circle inside. The goal is to paste the circle in the same position within the other frame. First, we selected and copied the circle and then pasted it, only to find it placed in the same frame, overlapping the original layer.

- However, after copying the circle again, we selected the target frame before pasting it, and this time, it appeared in the correct position (paste in place), matching its location in the original frame.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to paste in place in Figma!
With the above steps, you can paste the copied layer directly into its original or specific position without altering its placement. If your layer is pasting in the random position, check if grouping is affecting it, so ungroup and repeat the process.
