If you have used Figma for a while, you might notice it is limited in terms of units, as it lets you work only with Pixels. This limitation can be frustrating, especially when you have the design measurements in centimeters, millimeters, and inches.
In this guide, we will address these issues using a Unit Converter plugin, which lets you convert specific units to pixels without leaving Figma.
Change Units in Figma
- Navigate to Figma and sign in with your credentials. Next, open the design file you’re working on from Recently viewed.

- After the existing design file is loaded, navigate to the toolbar, click on Resources, and then click on the Plugins tab. In the input field provided, search for Unit Converter.

- The results include multiple plugins, and while they arguably all have the same functionality, we suggest you try the first five results by clicking on Run and finding out which fits your requirements. If you’re unsure, we recommend Unit Converter by Marcelo Novaes.

- After the plugin is loaded, enter the input value in the respective units. You will get the result in Pixels, and the other units will be converted as well.

- If you have closed the plugin and want to use it again after a while, you don’t have to go through the entire process. Instead, right-click on an empty space on the canvas, and from the available options, click on Plugins followed by Unit Converter.

Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to change units in Figma!
While this is the easiest way to change units in Figma, most get confused as the pixel value changes with each plugin and conversion tool. The reason behind this is that the DPI value affects how pixels are measured and displayed, leading to inconsistencies in the pixel values after conversion.
To avoid confusion, always check the DPI settings in each tool and ensure they match your project’s requirements.
